Once in the vicinity of this magical enclave, Es Vedrà and its surroundings offer a variety of experiences that go beyond the views, allowing you to connect with the most authentic essence of Ibiza. Here are five must-dos to make the most of your visit:
1. Enjoy Es Vedrà from its famous viewpoint: The Mirador de Es Vedrà is the most iconic spot to contemplate this majestic islet, located off the southwest coast of Ibiza. From this strategic vantage point, the views are spectacular at any time of day, though sunset is especially magical, with the sky tinged in warm hues that highlight the silhouette of the islet.
Shrouded in an aura of mystery, Es Vedrà is surrounded by fascinating legends. It’s said to be one of the world’s most magnetic spots, reinforcing its spiritual allure. Some link it to the remains of mythical Atlantis, while others tell of strange lights and mystical appearances that have captured the imagination of those who visit.
2. Discover Sa Pedrera de Cala d’Hort (Atlantis): Sa Pedrera, also known as Atlantis, is a secret, unique corner of Ibiza, where old quarries have shaped a landscape of natural pools and rock carvings. This fascinating spot blends nature and art, creating a bohemian setting that makes it a hidden gem.
Surrounded by imposing cliffs and offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean, Atlantis is perfect for those wanting to explore a wilder, alternative side of Ibiza. The path requires a somewhat demanding hike, but the reward is a magical environment that feels like another world.
3. Explore the Torre des Savinar (Pirate Tower): Walk to this historic 18th-century watchtower perched on a cliff with spectacular views of Es Vedrà. This spot combines history, nature, and stunning landscapes, making it an excellent place for sunset photography.
4. Relax at Cala d’Hort: This beach is one of the best places to enjoy close-up views of Es Vedrà while unwinding in its crystal-clear waters. It also offers beachfront restaurants where you can savor typical Ibizan cuisine.
5. Go snorkeling or kayaking: Although you are not allowed to land on the islet due to its protected status as a nature reserve, exploring the crystal-clear waters around the islet by snorkeling or kayaking from Cala d’Hort or other nearby coves is an unforgettable experience. You’ll enjoy a different perspective of both the islet and the cliffs, as well as the area’s abundant marine life. Local companies offer guided kayak tours to Es Vedrà, ensuring a safe and enriching experience.
Where to park
For the Mirador de Es Vedrà, there is a small parking area near the road connecting Cala d’Hort to the viewpoint. You’ll only have to walk a few minutes from there. Arrive early, especially in high season, as spaces are limited.
For this route, the best place to park is at Cala d’Hort, where you’ll find a parking area near the beach and the start of the trails to Sa Pedrera and Torre des Savinar. From this parking area, you can walk to both points.
